Social Media Content Ideas For Skincare Brands

social media content ideas for skincare brands

I’m back with the 2nd installment of my content ideas series.

In this series, I aim to showcase how you can brainstorm engaging content ideas for your business. In each part of this series, I’ll focus on one type of business and list ideas for social media posts.

You can use this series to a) get inspired to come up with your own ideas AND b) use my ideas, adjusted for your specific business.

In my last social media content ideas blog post, I shared ideas for a coffee shop. You can read it here if you missed it.

Today, I’m sharing social media content ideas for skincare brands.

To get notified of new installments in this series, make sure you’re subscribed to the newsletter.

Now, let’s take a look at some content ideas for a skincare brand.

Product Highlights

As a product-based business, showcasing your product is a no-brainer. The interesting part is HOW you showcase it.

This is where you can get quite creative and have some fun. In fact, the more ways you find to showcase your product in new and unique ways, the better.

After all, this is what will keep your content fun and engaging. Always remember to stay within your branding.

  • Explain the unique benefits of different products

  • Highlight powerful ingredients in each product

  • Share how products can be combined

  • Explain what makes your product unique/more powerful than others

  • Share what people love about your products

Unique Selling Points

The skincare market is quite oversaturated, and to stand out, it’s important to highlight your USPs.

  • Talk about certifications (ex. Leaping Bunny) you hold

  • Share the origin of your ingredients for transparency

  • Talk about your eco-friendly packaging

  • Explain your unique formulations

Skincare & ingredient education

Skincare is a science, and most people have a limited understanding of how ingredients work, the right order to apply products, etc.

Position yourself as an expert and share valuable information to help people customize their own skincare routine.

  • Explain individual ingredients and their uses

  • Explain the science behind different ingredients (but easily to understand for laymen)

  • Go back and share more about the history of skincare and what people have used over the centuries

  • Share ideas for DIY skincare

  • Debunk skincare myths

  • Skincare do’s and don’ts

  • The best order of products (do you start with an oil or water-based formula, etc.)

  • Answer FAQs

Before & after showcases

Everyone wants to see whether the skincare they are thinking of spending money on will provide the results they are hoping for.

Sharing before & afters of real people using your products can be incredibly valuable to show that, yes, your products do in fact work.

  • Before & after wrinkles

  • Before & after dark circles

  • Before & after eczema

  • Before & after acne

  • Etc.

Skincare routine

Selecting the right skincare routine can be challenging for people who don’t have in-depth knowledge of ingredients.

Sharing various types of routines can be incredibly beneficial for people to pick out a whole range of products for themselves.

  • Morning skincare routine

  • Evening skincare routine

  • On-the-go skincare routine

  • Skincare for sensitive skin routine

  • Skincare for eczema routine

  • Skincare for rosacea routine

  • Skincare for acne routine

  • Skincare for dull skin routine

  • Skincare for anti-aging routine

Seasonal Content

Most people don’t change their skincare routine throughout the year, but adjusting your skincare to the changing seasons and demands on skin can be beneficial.

This is something you can create content around.

  • Skincare for humid climates

  • Skincare for dry climates

  • Skincare for winter months

  • Skincare for summer months

  • Reminders to use sunscreen

  • Skincare for vacation (minimal but effective)

User-generated content

People trust other people. Especially when it comes to products like skincare, people love to hear other’s thoughts.

Did the eye cream really help with your under-eye circles? Are your fine forehead lines really smoothing out? Did this moisturizer break you out?

User-generated content can answer all the questions people have before purchasing - in a very authentic way.

  • Share UGC of someone’s skincare routine (morning, night, different skin concerns, etc.)

  • Share UGC of someone packing their skincare essentials for vacation

  • Share UGC of someone’s “what’s in my bag” style video showing your product as a daily essential

  • Share UGC of someone shopping for skincare products (featuring your products)

  • Share UGC of someone unboxing your skincare products

Behind-the-scenes

Behind-the-scenes content can be a great way to take people along and show the business side of your business.

The type of behind-the-scenes content will vary based on your branding.

For some brands, it makes sense to share more of the origin story and the founder, while for others, this type of content doesn’t work.

If your brand has a strong story or personal connection, make sure you share it.

  • Introduce your team members and share their favorite product

  • Share your origin story

  • Share a day in the life at your lab

  • Show all the steps that go into developing a new product (this can also be fun to vlog while developing a new product and make a montage to post when launching the new product)
